Perma-Grit Tools are extensively used by woodcarvers. They will cut, sand and shape all woods without loading. The needle files have proved most popular because they remove material much quicker than conventional files. However, the whole range is of use. Also, as they are an abrasive, they will cut in any direction. This can be particularly useful when working in tight corners etc. There have been many reviews in UK magazines. David Tippey reviewed them most recently last October in WOODCARVING magazine.

Quote:" The range of size and shapes of these files is well suited to all but the largest scale of carvings. They cut cleanly in any direction on a wide variety of timbers and the random distribution of the grit gives a smooth, sandpapered type finish, rather than a ridged, filed or rasped affect. The flexible sanding strip is especially interesting to woodcarvers. It can easily be cut, bent or stuck onto shaped pieces of wood, making abrasive tools to get in where other tools cannot go. I am sure most carvers will find these useful and an economical additions to their tool kits." |

Fred Kingsnorth from Auckland, New Zealand used the Perma-Grit small Rotary files to carve the feet on the above Omaha carved foot bowl and to finish off the Macrocarpa log bowl as well as the broken egg, called "Rebirth". Fred said "The Perma-Grit rotary files worked a treat and made carving the feet really easy".
