Perma-Grit Tools Cleaning Instructions

The grit spacing is such that the tools will not clog easily with general use. Should cleaning be necessary, a brass brush can be used to remove the loose materials.

If the tool gets clogged with glue, resin or paints etc, then this should be removed with a good quality paint remover or like solvent using the method described underneath. The use of thes solvents will result in a slight change of the grit colour, but it will not damage the cutting surface and will also not effect the life of the tool as the tungsten grit is welded to the steel base

The following cleaning steps should be followed:

N.B.  Read the Solvent Hazard label before proceeding and wear protective gloves as well as eye protection.

  1. Place tools "grit side up" into a plastic container or sink unit
  2. Apply the Solvent or Paint Stripper with a brush to the contaminated areas.
  3. Leave to stand for a minimum of 10 minutes.
  4. Scrub surfaces with wire brush using plenty of warm soapy water.
  5. Allow the tools to dry thoroughly before using.
  6. If contaminant is still present, repeat the whole process.

Super glues can be removed, using super glue de-bonder or Acetone.

Tip. When removing stubborn contaminants, place a piece of paper on top of the solvent or stripper. This prevents the agent from evaporating and allows it to penetrate the contaminant more successfully.

 Using Perma-Grit Tools on Aluminium

We recommend lubricating the tools with a lite spray of WD40 oil, wax or soap before working on aluminium. This eliviates the problem of loading and makes cleaning easier.  If the rotaries become heavily clogged, the aluminium can be melted off with a blow torch - not welding torch! (this sounds drastic, but used with a bit of care, it works). You can also use them on ceramic to clean out the aluminium.

We don't recommend cleaning the sanding blocks with a blow torch for obvious reasons.
